Nuance Notes (TM)

Stoichiometry: Stoichiometry Classes Of Chemical Reactions: 1, 2, 3, 4

1)       precipitation of an ionic salt, the electrostatic attraction of cations and anions to form an ionic lattice,

AgNO3(aq) + Na2S(aq)  Þ  Ag2S and NaNO3

·         Light Left Metals, 2. Acetates, Nitrates 3, 7 group: CL, I, Br, At,

·         CASH stands for Cholorates, Acetates, Sulphates, Halogens are all soluble except for CBS: Ca, Ba, Sr.

·         Carbonates, Hydroxides, Oxides and Phosphates are insoluble.

2) acid-base reaction, the transfer of a proton from the acid to the base,

3) complexation, the formation of covalent bonds between a transition metal species and ligand(s),

4) oxidation-reduction, the transfer of one or more electrons from the reducing agent to the oxidizing agent and subsequent molecular transformation after the electron transfer.

Pi bonds = number of double bonds + number of triple bonds

Sigma bonds = number of atoms + number of rings - 1

"The Excess Mess"

Pick one product, but make two ratios,

Stick X under the products below!

If one is less the other is in excess!

Now make a product ratio!

"Enthalpy – Rhymes"

Split it in half, before you do the math, make the reactants match!

Flip it in reverse, or your cursed, don’t put the products first!

Stack it, multiply it and subtract it!
